March Madness: How to Dress for Unpredictable Weather

March weather can be the most unpredictable of the year. Temperatures move up and down constantly, and wind and rain make dressing for work a definite challenge. Here are my tips for making it through unpredictable March, while staying chic and fashionable.

1. Layers are Your Friend

Layering is one of the best ways to stay prepared for any type of weather. Invest in cardigan sweaters that you can wear with lightweight wool trousers, and layer over a blouse for the office. Keep sweaters in a variety of fabrics. Cashmere, light wool, or cotton are great options to choose between based on the weather. Top your outfit with either a wool or waterproof trench coat depending on the forecast.

2. Carry a Mini Umbrella

March can be a very wet month, so make sure to have an umbrella packed in your office tote at all times. You never know when the weather will take a turn, so find a small, compact umbrella that you can have with you every day.

3. Accessorize with a Variety of Hats, Scarves & Gloves

Keep hats, scarves and gloves by the door to grab depending on the weather. I keep both a light wool scarf and a warm wool scarf out to choose between based on how cold it is. Check the forecast on your weather app before running out the door so you can make the right selection.

4. Short Boots and Rain Boots

Boots are still the go-to shoe for March especially with cold, wet and rainy weather. Consider investing in a pair of rain boots to wear on your trek into the office, and switch into pumps once you get there. Keep your feet dry and warm in a classic black pair that you will be grateful for as you walk through puddles of melting snow. On a chilly, but dry day, opt for a pair of short, heeled boots that are comfortable but not as warm as your winter ones.

5. March Makeup Touch-Ups

Whether you walk to work through wind, rain or snow, or brave the elements as you run from the car to your office, make sure to keep makeup with you for touch ups. I always keep my Naked On the Run palette that has eye shadow, eye liner, mascara, blush, bronzer, lip gloss and highlighter all in one compact. Touch up your makeup and look flawless no matter what the weather has in store.

6. Weather-Proof Hairstyles

If your hair is anything like mine, wet, windy weather is not its friend. March weather means time to break out some go-to weather proof hairstyles just in case. Find a few styles that you can master and have ready to go if your loose curls get ruined with a rainy day. Some of my favorites are the french twist, fishtail braid, or ballerina bun. Keep extra bobby pins and hair ties in your bag in case you need to throw your hair up after a wet walk to work.
