What to Wear to Work: Scarf and Pearls

Skirt: J. Crew | Top: Smartwool
Scarf: gift, similar options here | Pearls: from craft market, similar here
Boots: Ann Taylor, similar here

Today I'm feeling like channeling Madame Chanel again, with an all-black ensemble set off by both a classic red silk scarf and a long strand of pearls. To tie the scarf, simply wrap it around your neck twice and then tie it in a knot at the front. Adjust it around your neck to even it out and achieve the look you love!

What to Wear to Work: Red Shawl

Skirt: J. Crew | Top: Smartwool
Shawl: gift, similar here | Boots: Ann Taylor, similar here

I've been SUPER sick all week, but still had to go into the office and keep working (of course!). I've been trying to keep my clothes as simple and comfy as possible, while still remaining professional. This all-black outfit may not be the height of fashion, but adding a beautiful red shawl on top adds a bit more color and a touch of holiday cheer.

Tips and Trends: Easy Holiday Party Recipes

Entertaining is one of my favorite things to do during the holidays. However, hosting during the holidays can be really stressful for the working woman. So, today I am sharing some of my favorite holiday recipes that taste amazing and are easy to prepare. From a holiday cheese plate to delicious peppermint sugar cookies, here are a few must-try holiday recipes to make your holiday party a guaranteed success!

Menu

- Cheese and Crackers
- Holiday-Themed Veggie Tray
-  Sugar Cookies
- Chocolate Truffles
- Hot Chocolate

Cheese Plate

For the cheese and cracker appetizer, choose and arrange a handful of delicious cheeses on a tray. Create a festive wreath made of herbs, bay leaves, olives and raspberries. Make or buy a cheese ball, divide in half, and top with thin sliced almonds for a decorative twist. Serve an assortment of crackers to give your guests a variety of options to pair with the cheeses.

Peppermint Candy Sugar Cookies

Festive holiday cookies are a must have at any winter cocktail party. Martha Stewart has an amazing recipe for sugar cookies with candy cane pieces inside. If you are worried about having time to bake cookies from scratch, make the sugar cookie batter ahead of time on the weekend and then roll out and bake the cookies before your guests come. This simple recipe has only 9 ingredients and the cookies bake in about 12 minutes - perfect for the woman with limited time to shop and cook.

Chocolate Truffles

Whole Foods Organic Chocolate Truffles

It's not a party without some chocolate! These Whole Foods chocolate truffles are a delicious and easy treat. Just arrange them on a silver or gold platter and they'll look beautiful on the table.

Holiday Themed Veggie Tray

A decorative holiday themed vegetable tray is a great way to add something healthy to your cocktail party. Choose an either all white veggie tray, or a festive red and green tray. For an all white tray arrange cauliflower, white asparagus cut up in short pieces, mushrooms, and boiled potatoes peeled and cubed. Use a creamy white sauce like ranch for dipping. For a red and green tray, arrange tomatoes, red peppers, cucumbers, and broccoli. For the dip, mix red-wine vinaigrette with olive oil and garnish with a few red pepper flakes for a delicious festive sauce.

Hot Chocolate

William Sonoma Classic Hot Chocolate & Peppermint Marshmallows

Hot chocolate is the perfect drink for a winter cocktail party. Any quality hot chocolate mix is sure to be a hit with your guests, but one of my favorites is the William Sonoma classic hot chocolate or peppermint hot chocolate.  This mix is easy to make, but tastes deliciously homemade. I also love big fluffy, handcrafted marshmallows to put in the drink. William Sonoma makes peppermint marshmallows that will make your hot chocolate to die for!

Give these festive holiday recipes a try at your next winter cocktail party. Leave any comments and questions below! Happy Holidays!

In the spirit of the holiday, for the next two weeks all my outfits will have a touch of red! Which is kind of easy, since red is my favorite color and I have a lot of it. But what better time than December to wear as much red as possible?? First up - this gorgeous, classic v-neck sweater in a warm cranberry!!

What to Wear to Work: Red Tweed Skirt and Red Sweater

Skirt: Classique Entier, similar here | Sweater: Target
Boots: Ann Taylor, similar here | Belt: Target, similar here

It's finally time for the holidays, so bring on the red!! While your mother may have taught you not to mix your reds, if you have a piece that already has various shades of red in it, such as this tweed skirt, you can definitely layer a solid red over top. I've made my look a touch more festive by layering three necklaces of different lengths over the sweater, but for a work-day office look, I would probably just pick one necklace. Black boots at this time of year are a MUST - it's getting cold outside!!

After all those rounds of turkey, stuffing and slice after slice of pie, I'm looking for something comfortable to wear to the office! Adding a belt over a blazer gives an additional pop of color and creates a different silhouette. This red pencil skirt is going to be one of my go-to pieces for December. It gives off a nice holiday feeling while still looking classy.
